The Alpine Postal Motor Coach |

|
|
In 1906, the Swiss government purchased three motor coaches to transport mail between towns in the Swiss Alps. Due to bad roads and frequent breakdowns, the motor coaches were withdrawn from all but one route in 1906 and replaced with horse drawn coaches as in previous years. Motor coaches made a come-back in 1918 and have been used extensively since then to transport mail in the hazardous Swiss Alps.
