Stamps sparked off an insurrection and changed the history of a country. In 1884, the Japanese were instrumental in introducing adhesive postage stamps in Korea. This upset the Koreans who staged an uprising, burned down the post office in Seoul and scattered the sheets of new-fangled stamps through the streets. On the pretext of restoring law and order, Japanese troops moved in and occupied the country - an occupation which lasted until 1945.
