The district of Thrace, on the northern coast of the Aegean, was occupied by Bulgaria at the end of the Balkan Wars but came under Allied control after World War I and eventually passed to Greece. Bulgarian stamps overprinted THRACE INTER-ALLIEE OF THRACE OCCIDENTALE were used in 1919 and 1920. The basic stamp was one of a series released in October 1919 to mark the first anniversary of the accession of Tsar Boris III.
