Stamp Design - One PDF Print E-mail
The greatest number of people involved in the design of a single stamp was in 1839 - 1840, when the world's first stamps were being planned. Apart from the 2600 entrants in the Treasury Design Competition, the actual stamps were based on an idea by Rowland Hill, using a profile of Queen Victoria sculpted by William Wyon and adapted by Henry Corbould for engraving by Charles and Frederick Heath on a background engine turned by Jacob Perkins.
