Premature stamps were issued by Honduras in 1866 - eleven years before the country's postal service was organised. The abortive two reales stamps of 1866 were reissued in 1877 with surcharged values from on half ot two reales at Tegucigalpa and Comayagua. The surcharges, being applied by hand, are frequently illegible, double or inverted.
