in 1908 the Cretan Assembley proclaimed 'union' with Greece, but this was not ratified by the European powers until 1913. In 1908 the current definitive stamps of Crete were reissued with an overprint in Greek lettering to signify 'Greece'. Apart from double or inverted overprints there are numerous examples of missing or inverted letters. Different styles of lettering were used for the overprints in 1909 - 1910.
