Paper Used for Swiss Stamps PDF Print E-mail
From 1907 onwards, most Swiss stamps were printed on granite paper with the admixture of red and blue fibres, and sometimes also black and yellow fibres. For a period from 1933 onwards, 'grilled' paper, which shows a criss-cross pattern was used. Some issues were printed on chalk coated paper. As many stamps were printed on two or three different papers, for instance, ordinary paper, chalk paper and grilled paper, separate listings in catalogues were necessary. Various papers were used for the production of the Sitting Helvetia issues of 1854 - 1862.
