Grenada Commemorates Columbus PDF Print E-mail

Greanda was one of the few West Indian islands to issue a stamp in the 1890s to commemorate the exploits of Christopher Columbus. A two and a half penny stamp was issued in August 1898 to mark the quartercentenerary of the discovery of the island by Columbus. 'La Concepcion' was the original name for the island. The stamp was normally issued on white paper but a small quantity was printed on bluish paper.
