First Official Airmail PDF Print E-mail
The first official airmail in the world was inaugurated on 18th February, 1911, between Allahabad and Naini, India. L. Pecquet flew a Humber-Sommer bi-plane carrying mail in connection with the United Provinces Exhibition and a pictorial postmark, showing the aeroplane was used. India issued three stamps in 1961 to celebrate the Golden Jubilee. The first official airmails in Britain, Denmark, Italy and the United States of America all took place in September, 1911.
