The first horseless mailvan was a steam driven vehicle employed by the Post Office between London and Redhill, Surrey in 1897. Later the same year, a petrol driven van was used experimentally at the General Post Office, London. A Daimler van was used between Reading and Newbury. Three motor vans were introduced in 1903 for the London, Liverpool and Manchester parcel services.
