The first newspaper stamp in the British Commonwealth was issued by New Zealand in 1873. The American newspaper stamps, issued in 1865, measured 51 X 95mm and were, until 1911, the largest stamps in the world. The US $100 newspaper stamp of 1896 depicting Minnehaha, was the highest valued stamp in the world until 1912.
