The philatelic history of Cape Verde Islands parallels that of other Portugese colonies. A pictorial definitive series was issued in 1948 and depicted views of the islands. Thereafter thematic sets appeared at regular intervals. The series of May 1952 depicted Portugese explorers and navigators and historic maps of the islands.
