The five stamps of the British Maritime issue exemplify the printer's art and skill. The fifteen and a half penny stamp shows Henry VIII and the pride of his navy the Mary Rose built in 1510 and sunk in 1545. The nineteen and a half penny shows Admiral Blake and his fleet flagship, the Triumph built in 1623. Britain's most famous sailor, Vice-Admiral Lord Nelson, is pictured on the twenty-four penny with his flagship HMS Victory laid down in 1759. Admiral Fisher is shown on the twenty-six penny with his controversial innovation HMS Dreadnought a 17 900 ton battleship built at Portsmouth and launched by Edward VII in 1906. Admiral Cunningham, the outstanding British Naval Commander of World War II, is shown on the twenty-nine penny with HMS Warspite, completed in 1915.
