Oxidised Colour on Postage Stamps |
|

|
The oxidation of the colour of a stamps can ruin the stamps from a point of view of value as well as appearance. The hardest hit of all colours are the orange and the orange-brown shades. The orange turns brownish and the orange-brown turns quite a poor blackish-brown. This is caused by sulphur in the paper of an album page or the envelope on which it was used, the paper of the stamp itself, and in some cases, certain tropical conditions will also bring about oxidation.
