| The monarchy came to an end in September 1969 in a coup led by elements of the Libyan Army. Stamps issued since the end of 1969 have been inscribed L.A.R. (Libyan Arab Republic), emulating the styles adopted by Egypt, Syria and the Yemen. A set of six was issued in 1970 to mark the inauguration of the new headquarters of the Universal Postal Union. |
